Stranger Than Fiction: Finding My Footing in a Fractured World

10 November 2025

It’s taken me a while to find my footing, and truthfully, I’m still stumbling, trying to know if I’m heading the right way. I’m sure I’m not alone in that feeling. At some point, we all wonder if we’re walking the path meant for us, or just wandering through a version of life that doesn’t quite fit.

As I’ve embraced new surroundings in a place that once felt so foreign, I’ve questioned whether this was the right choice, and when the “future” I’ve been working toward will finally arrive. I’ve done my best not to let the tremors of the past keep shaking me to my core, though that’s easier said than done.

Even picking up my camera has felt heavy at times, a quiet panic that follows the emotional earthquake of last year. Then, as if the world hadn’t already tested our collective spirit, came the relentless continuation of global violence, genocide, and the political theater designed to distract us from corruption, greed, and hate.

With time , and the support of those I hold close, both near and abroad, I’ve begun to rebuild. I’ve sought out new opportunities and reeducated myself on who I am, why I create, and what responsibility I carry to those who came before and those who will come after. Yet, as I reconstruct, the world seems to keep dividing itself further. And the question of who is drawing the lines has become more and more blurred.

I’ve been asked questions loaded with agenda, often by people who live their lives exactly the same, complaining about corruption and decay, yet continuing to subscribe to the very systems they condemn. “Did you vote?” “If you’re not a liberal, what are you?” “Aren’t you mad at J.K. Rowling?”

These questions are meant to define, to categorize, to simplify what cannot be simplified. But will a label really help you understand me? Or will it just make you more comfortable?

More on my Reeducated

I act from what I believe is right, not for self-comfort, not for approval, but for the betterment of the world. Yet, today’s social politics have created a kind of cancel culture that discourages critical thought and shames individuality. It says: if you don’t agree with everything I agree with, you are wrong, and you are part of the problem.

This is why it’s getting harder and harder to tell friend from foe, disagreement from disrespect. We live in a world run by madmen, and instead of holding ourselves accountable, we’ve built walls of “us” and “them.” Many who call themselves liberals are quick to cast the first stone, yet crumble when light is shone on their own contradictions.

I say us, because none of us are exempt. We all share the burden of guilt, and we must all move forward with intention. To Be the Change means to change, not to rinse and repeat, not to hide behind slogans or perform empathy for show.

We have to disturb our own comfort before we can dismantle the systems that feed off it. We must stop arguing long enough to listen, like a child, curious and unafraid to learn. We have to let go of who we think we are and imagine new, uncharted versions of ourselves,  and through that, reimagine the world.

My new series, Stranger Than Fiction, comes from that space,  the discomfort, the questioning, the refusal to look away. It’s a confrontation with illusion and hypocrisy, and an invitation to dialogue even when it feels unsafe.

To be the change is to speak the unapproved thoughts, not from arrogance, but from humanity, from the understanding that we will make mistakes, and that’s okay. The point is to keep trying, to keep creating, and to extend that same grace to others that we so often reserve only for ourselves.

More About The Exhibition

Honoring The Spirit of Our Fallen

7 April 2024

The month of Ramadan is a sacred time, a time for charity, humility, and unity. This year, its significance is even more profound as we bear witness to the ongoing devastation in Gaza. From miles away, we are doing all we can to honor the memories of those we've lost and to alleviate the suffering of those who continue to endure. In their names, we must love more passionately, savor life more deeply, and treasure each moment more dearly.

Tragically, on Monday, seven heroes from World Central Kitchen were brutally taken from us by the IDF. Saif, Zomi, Damian, Jakob, John, Jim, and James—these were not just names. They were daughters and sons, sisters and brothers, friends, and beacons of light in our world. Their lives were dedicated to the selfless act of giving, even in the most harrowing circumstances.

World Central Kitchen Statement

Last September, I had the privilege of working alongside Damian and Zomi during earthquake relief efforts in Morocco. Zomi was a force of nature—direct yet comforting, preparing us for the arduous months ahead. She warned us of the challenges we would face but reassured us to never take anything personally and to remember our greater mission. Damian, with his infectious smile, worked tirelessly, often without rest building two kitchens that fed thousands of displaced Moroccans daily. This was the spirit they carried with them, from Turkey to Syria, and even in Gaza, where they had just delivered 380,000 meals. They embodied the essence of Ramadan.

The loss of these brave individuals is beyond heartbreaking, and the brutality of this war is nothing short of inhumane. We cannot stand idly by while such atrocities continue to unfold before our eyes. We must rise together to end the violence and suffering that plague our world. We cannot allow these dark days to break our spirit. Instead, we must love more fiercely, savor life more profoundly, and cherish each other more completely.

To Zomi, Damian, Saif, Jakob, John, Jim, and James—thank you for the extraordinary impact you've had on countless lives. My deepest gratitude goes to Nelly and Oli, the World Central Kitchen team members who bravely faced the unimaginable task of identifying their fallen colleagues.

And to all of you, thank you for your unwavering commitment to ending this war. Free Palestine! Together, we can and will make a difference.

Together for Palestine: Advocating for Justice och Solidarity i Sweden

17 February 2024

In recent years, the global community has witnessed a surge in activism and solidarity movements, particularly concerning the plight of marginalized communities. One such movement making waves in Sweden is Together for Palestine, a group dedicated to organizing protests and marches in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. As an International Photojournalist deeply involved in advocating for marginalized communities worldwide, I've had the privilege of witnessing and participating in their remarkable work firsthand.

together4palestinee

Led by passionate individuals committed to raising awareness about the ongoing struggles faced by Palestinians, Together for Palestine has emerged as a beacon of hope and solidarity in Sweden. Their efforts extend beyond mere demonstrations; they strive to educate, empower, and amplify the voices of those affected by the conflict.

As an advocate for the elevation of the voices of the oppressed, I am truly impressed by the dedication and passion exhibited by Together for Palestine. Their work serves as a reminder that grassroots activism and community organizing can spark meaningful change, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

In a world plagued by injustice and inequality, movements like Together for Palestine offer hope for a brighter future—a future where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and equality. As I continue to document their efforts and stand in solidarity with their cause, I am reminded of the words of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish: "On this land, there is what makes life worth living."

Earthquake Relife Morocco

26 October 2023

Despite the aid provided by organizations like the World Central Kitchen, Morocco is experiencing slow progress in recovery from the 6.4 magnitude earthquake. The trauma felt daily, coupled with a lack of jobs and financial resources, continues to hinder efforts to rebuild. The earthquake profoundly impacted 1.5 million people, disrupting food access and causing structural damage.

While the resilience of both aid providers and survivors is evident, sustained aid is imperative for lasting recovery. Documented accounts illuminate ongoing hardships, stressing the necessity for continuous support to reinstate dignity and optimism. Advocacy for ongoing assistance is vital to expedite reconstruction and address the enduring obstacles confronting earthquake-affected communities.

Urgent action is still needed to support Morocco's recovery.

Wolves Vs Nuggets

24 April 2023

As the 2023 NBA Playoffs illuminated screens and filled arenas worldwide, the electrifying energy of competition transcended borders, uniting fans young and old in a shared celebration of the human spirit.

For many, the NBA represents more than just a game – it's a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. From the streets of inner-city neighborhoods to the far reaches of rural villages, the sight of basketball's greatest talents in action inspires dreams of greatness and stirs the soul with a sense of possibility.

But beyond the dazzling displays of athleticism and skill lies a deeper truth: the impact of professional sports teams extends far beyond the court, shaping cultures and communities in profound ways. Through the lens of this exploration, we uncover the transformative influence of these cultural icons, revealing how they serve as symbols of unity and resilience in a world often divided by strife and discord.

What does it mean to see a dream come true? It's the culmination of countless hours of sweat and sacrifice, of unwavering dedication and unyielding faith. It's the realization that even the most improbable of goals can be achieved with determination and belief. And in the midst of the NBA Finals, as teams compete for glory and fans rally behind their heroes, we bear witness to the power of dreams to inspire, to challenge, and to ignite a fire within us all.

Through the lens of basketball, we see not just a game, but a symbol of hope and inspiration – a reminder that no dream is too big, and no challenge too daunting, for those who dare to believe. And in this spirit of unity and resilience, we find the strength to be the change we wish to see in the world.

January 6th Insurrection

06 January 2021

INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS

As a minority I have marched in solidarity with others striving to defend our most basic human rights to life, to freedom, to vote, and to love in public without the threat of an oppressive society continuing to cause us harm. Protesters have occupied streets and been used in social justice movements to remind others of our humanity. What we witnessed wasn’t protest—peaceful or otherwise. It was an insurrection and the manifestation and mass personification of white privilege and fragility. The mob implored the tactics of a victim-hood mentality, while simultaneously showing a broad sense of entitlement. They should be held accountable for their actions and not allowed to shrink back into the shadows of ignorance and hate.

I have come to DC countless times to document change, but January 6th was a sight that should have been relegated only to horror movies and pre-reconstruction ignorance—not 2021. Black Lives Matter Plaza sets the scene for my day. All of DC was swarmed by the delusional and privileged as they marched on the Capitol, inflamed by the (former) President of the United States and a barrage of lies about election fraud.

Individuals proudly carrying racist and hateful symbols appropriated a form of protest often utilized by marginalized, at-risk, and oppressed minorities. Like most forms of appropriation, this mob picked and chose information and tactics most beneficial for them to implore out of context. They chanted “Stop the Steal”, while waving confederate flags and clapping on the one and three. Yet, instead of a peaceful protest protected by the First Amendment, they felt entitled to break barriers and ransack the very symbol of democracy in America—the United States Capitol— destroying property, threatening leaders, and taking lives in the process. (All while taking selfies and boasting about their exploits on social media.)

For the last four years, we have watched as America’s darker truths were aired for the entire world to see. We have watched white privilege documented, and the murder of black bodies go without justice. America has never been the land of the free, but we have always believed we can be more. The entire world has had to adapt to the adversity of a global pandemic and overcome the fear of the unknown. The American dream is success through adversity. The American reality is adversity reveals character, and many Americans should be ashamed of what happened on January 6th and all that led to it.

From the ones that stormed the Capitol with malicious intent to the ones that allow ignorance to go unchecked, and all the in-between—we all hold responsibility. There is always room to be better and be the change you want to see. As Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate, said at the inauguration of a new President, “There is always light if we’re brave enough to see it. There’s always light if we’re brave enough to be it.” I aim for my photography and “Be the Change” to be a path forward with truth and light!
